This article is the answer to many of us foodies prayers. Finally chefs are starting to realize that they can make very good food and not have to charge ridiculous prices for it. As a cook I always believed that there is no excuse for making great food and who says that great food cant be cheap?? Well I happen to believe that all of this is possible and it always has been it was about time that chefs started to realize that this is what people want. Good solid food for what its worth. Chefs just have to keep it local, simple and fresh, that is all you need to make great food.
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting article. Some restaurants just don't want to cut their prices on their higher end foods and it is good to see that chefs are starting to come around and offer great foods at lower prices. Even though times are tough in our economy people still like to treat themselves and others out to a good night of food and drinks. With restaurants offering these deals it enables people to come out for special occasions and enjoy excellant food without breaking the bank. Also, by offering these menus it can give some people who originally wouldn't pay that much for a meal to try the chef's elite dishes and maybe down the line pay the original price once they realize how good these dishes are. While it is important to find a selling price where you are making a maximum profit, it is good to see restaurants offering lower prices to bring in more people to try their best dishes.
ReplyDeleteI like this article a lot. Too many times I go out to a restaurant and find a few items that I would like to try but know I can’t eat it all or afford the high prices. The tasting menus are a great way to combat both of those problems; you are able to get good food, a smaller portion at a good price. By offering these luxury items at a more affordable price, restaurants are able to sell more of them. People would be willing to splurge more on a 40$ tasting menu that includes dessert rather than spend 40$ on a entrĂ©e and have it be all you get. This is another great way for chefs to showcase their talents and make a excellent affordable meal.
ReplyDeleteBeing a college student, and a foodie, is not a very good combination. I personally (as I'm sure all of you would agree) LOVE being in almost any restaurant. I love the atmosphere, trying new things, and in my own way being a food critic. It is difficult when you are on a tight budget and can't afford to dine at higher end restaurants you may want to try. I think this is great that chefs are realizing during this recession, it is time to give diners what they want, great food at a cheap price. Promotions like these are common in chains such as Applebees, but finally our dream has come true. We can finally afford to dine at places such as Capitol Grill.
